The benefits of using our hydrotherapy pool

Studies have shown that hydrotherapy can improve strength and general fitness, particularly for those who find other forms of exercise difficult. The warmth of the water, typically 34 Degrees C, allows your muscles to relax and eases pain and discomfort. The water supports your weight, helping to increase the range of body movement. The water can be used to provide resistance to movement by pushing arms and legs against the water muscle strength can be improved. The exercise and the warmth of the water may make you feel tired after use, but this is quite normal. As with any physical activity we recommend that people consult a medical professional before commencing any new exercise regime.

The warm waters are ideal for babies and small children. The NHS advises that babies can be taken swimming at any age, and there's no need to wait until your new-born has had their first immunisations. Although your baby is safe to swim, to avoid infection, mums should wait until around 6 weeks or 7 days after vaginal bleeding after birth stops. Swimming with your child is a wonderful bonding exercise and introduces them to this valuable form of exercise and life-saving essential at an early age. A swim nappy is essential to avoid leakage during pool use.

People with living with anxiety, autism or other sensory processing disorders can often find the experience provided by large public swimming pools overwhelming. The volume of people, noise, especially the echo, and the use of communal changing areas and the change in temperature when exiting the water can be challenging. The Compass Wellbeing Hydropool and all changing facilities are located in the one exclusive use facility. The whole facility is kept warm so that there is little variance when exiting the water and the only noise is that which is made by you!

Whether or not you choose to exercise whilst using the Hydropool, the warm waters, hydrojets and intimate surroundings can be very beneficial to mental wellbeing. The prefect place to relax, reducing blood pressure caused by stress and slowing down the body’s reaction to anxiety, a natural stress fighter. The increased blood flow and circulation of white blood cells around the body allows lymph to be moved through the body more efficiently and therefore strengthens the immune system, helping to fight colds and illnesses.
